Is it realistic for me to become a great amateur?

I'm 5'7 and a fit but very small 170 lber (67" wingspan). If I compete, I'll be in the 165 lb weight class. I would not be able to make it down to a lower weight class cause I'm already small for this weight. I'll be going up people literally half a foot taller+ then me and I don't think I stand a chance due to sheer size difference. The tallest one at my boxing club is 5'10" and I'm already having problems.

Obviously skill>size but realistically, I'm gonna have to have a major problems at the higher levels. I know smaller guys are supposed to work the body but I'd imagine that's only effective in the pros, not the amateurs.

If you have to ask, no.

Just adapt a style that makes your build work for you, look at Tyson, a midget compared to heavyweights nowadays but he had a style that made the most of his height.

Work on slipping the opponent's jab and then coming in with your own shots, so work on your footwork. Movement is key, you need to make the opponent miss so they're vulnerable to your attacks.

There have been many successful boxers who've given away a lot of height, you just have to figure out how to use it to your advantage. Dwight muhammad Qawi is another you could look into, 5ft8 cruiserweight.

Find a trainer that knows the techniques you need to learn in regards to giving up height! Once you bridge that gap your opponent is at a disadvantage. So theres NO advantage it just depends how far away you are to your opponent! Theres plenty of fighters with heigth advantages that simply don't know how to use it effectively. Just as their shorter men who don't know the techniques on how to get inside, its a catch 22!!!!
Regardless of your reach and height you need a trainer with experiences that can address your situation! Go find him. Ray.
