Running shoes

If you live stateside, I'd get a decent pair of any running shoes. But to me, the most important thing are the insoles. I visited footlocker about 4-5 months ago & they sell cross training insoles. I have a pair of avia running shoes & I just swapped out the insoles & they are better than any other running shoes I've acquired to this point.

Get shoes based on your own needs, dont base it off pricing. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
Do you have a high arch?
Do you land with your heel when you run, or the ball of your feet?
Does your feet have pronation?
The reason i ask is because they make shoes based on the kind of feet you have and how you run, for example, motion control, stability, and neutral shoes.
For myself, i have a high arch but im a heel striker and my arch flattens out when my feet land, i went to road runner shoes to have them test my feet. With that said, i ended up getting a motion control shoe which cured my shin splints and allowed me to run more comfortably.
As far as pricing goes, you may find cheap shoes that fit you perfectly compared to a pair that is double the price, it all depends on your feet and what shoes you need. Although i would shy away from Nikes as i have found their quality to be crap, and they offer no width selection as i have wider feet. They are just good at marketing, but their product in my opinion, sucks. Good running shoe brands are Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Mizuno, Newtons, etc.
Good luck.

Yes, as already mentioned you need to know what type of running style you have. You maybe an overpronator, a neutral runner or an underpronator. Likewise you might be a heel striker, mid foot lander or front foot lander.
The best way to find out is to be analysed on a treadmill by a dedicated running store. In the UK we have 'Up & Running'. They will analyse you for free and make recommendations on trainers for you. The US will have something similar.....
