    [Help]Middle knuckle pain!!

Can any of yall give me advice of how to treat this thing? Everytime I punch the mitts or bags my middle knuckle of my left hand hurts like hell to the point where I can't punch anymore. It really is frustrating cause I'm was really going hard and sparring 3 to 2 times a week but now I can't even hit the bags. I haven't been to the gym for a week now and I am gonna try it today. I've heard that how you wrap your hand might be the reason? and if so any suggestions on how to wrap my hands? tnx.

You're going to have to amputate your arm.

could be a sprain/break/fracture or anything really. I think you should wait another week

dislocated/broken knuckle is most likely the problem. Specially if it is pin point and not throughout the hand.

Pretty much you just have to take a break from boxing. Even if you went to a doctor, they would say to rest it. A doc can tell you if it is broken or not. Most of the time, it doesn't require surgery which means you'll have to rest it anyways.

Either that or put more padding over your hands. Cut a sponge or piece of rubber and stick it in your wraps. But again, that will just prolong the injury.

Do you wrap in between fingers ?, if so that may have something to do with it, used to get really bad pains as well which would shoot up my arm with every punch then someone on here advised me to take a week off and not too wrap in between. Worked wonders and haven't had a problem since.

I wrapped like that for a long time with no problems, don't really know how / why it started but changing it stopped the pain, it could be something different though, you could have a minor fracture or anything wrong I'd go to a doctor to check and have a bit longer off.

Dislocated/broken knuckle is NOT the most likely problem. You wouldn't be able to hit the bag at all and it would be really swollen and in constant pain.

You've most likely just hurt it in the same way you would hurt your shin bone if you bump into a coffee table hard or something like that. It hurts, it may be swollen or bruised but there's no serious damage. If you keep kicking the table it's never going to heal though.

So you need to take some time off to let it heal up. Ice it 20 on 20 off as often as you can. You can do shadowboxing but don't punch any bags/pads/people. Not even a little. Just because it doesn't hurt at first doesn't mean it won't hurt in a couple hours once it swells up again. So take some time off (a week or so, not two days) and then start nice and light easy back. Go light on the bag for a round or two then stop and see how it feels later that night/the next day.

You can also put some sponge in your wraps AFTER it is healed to prevent it happening again. Don't just put sponge in now and keep punching, it won't be enough to protect it when it's already injured and it'll never heal.

Sorry for long post, but I'm kinda an expert on this sort of injury. Done it lots before myself.

tnx for the responses guys. I hit the mitts today and sparred it still hurts but not as bad as last week. My coach said it's a bone bruise so he said I might have to rest it even more.

              @Mepunchhard Yes I think you're spot on.

@Nchristo Yes I wrap in between my fingers so I might try a different one next time. I'll start icing it too.

I had the same problem here's what helped:

                -switch to 16oz comfy gloves
-really clench a fist when your punch lands
                -never wraps in between fingers
-res a few weeks first, ice the knuckle
-don't use heavy bags that have deformed shape (over used ones)

It could be, as the injury is common amongst boxers. He said it hurts like hell, which means he is most likely fighting through the pain. Just because you wouldn't handle the pain doesn't mean everyone has the same pain tolerance as you. Specially if the pain is pin point. Hence why I said see a doctor, you don't know till your run x-rays.

Seeing John's latest post, a bone bruise could be it too. It slipped my mind. I had bone bruises on my shins recently, stuff is terrible.
