    NEW... Need Help!

Hey guys, Just a quick question.
Always liked boxing but never really had the confidence to step inside a gym and start training. Although now, I really want to and i've heard boxing can really boost your confidence, is this true?
And also if you could offer any advice on starting boxing training, not looking to compete or anything like that. Purely for fitness and personal enjoyment only.
Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Scroll down an find your state. Look for a legit gym on there or one in your area. Sign up. The only advice I'd have is, at the very least, go to the gym 3-4 times a week if you're going to do it for fitness, make sure you run so you can spar comfortably. And last, but not least, do NOT allow yourself to quit after a month or two. I see that happen way to often after people lose interest. Do not box to be badass and tell everybody "I know how to fight". Box for the love of boxing. Do not think of it as fighting, think of it as a sport. Also, be humble. Do not boast and tell everyone you're a boxer, because in my opinion, you're not a boxer until you've had at least 10 amateur fights.

Take all of this guy's advice and use it.

And I'll throw in a few things:

      1. Working out in general will boost your confidence. It just makes you feel good and like you're doing something worthwhile and good for yourself. Boxing is a particularly good workout, so yeah it'll boost your confidence. Don't let it boost it so high that you go getting in fights, though, because you will lose (and break your hands).

      2. If you're in it for fitness and fun that's absolutely fine. Don't feel pressured to fit in by sparring right away. You might not even want to spar at all (though if you're in it for confidence, you won't feel the full benefits until you start sparring. Makes you feel alive and stuff.)

      3. Visit all the gyms in your area before settling in to one. Every gym runs things differently. The 'better' gyms are usually oriented toward fighting, and the coach will spend his time with his fighters and give you little or no instruction. There's a lot of gyms that offer actual classes though, from beginner to advanced. If there's a beginner's class, go for it and give it your best for 3 months or so. Regardless of whether it's how you thought it would be, stick with it for at least 3 months. Beginner classes can be extremely boring, but it's a foundation you need if you plan to spend years hitting the bag. Learn to do it right and build good habits.

Have fun and work hard. You'll meet awesome people and get to punch them in the face.
