    Help Me Train My Friend

Basically my friend named joe got himself into a boxing match with a person who is stronger and more experienced then him. Joe is 6'2" about 180 lbs. and the other person is 5'10" and around 190-200 lbs but muscular. Joe for some reason asked me to help get him into shape and train him for the fight. There is no set time for when the fight is taking place but it will happen whenever joe asks for it. Joe knows the basics like how to throw a jab, cross, and a hook, but beyond that he has no experience. He will do whatever it takes to prepare himself for the fight so I was wondering if any of you could help me piece together a training routine for him. We have no access to a boxing gym or trainer so suggesting that will not help at all.

    We have access to
    Heavy Bag
    Jump Rope
    Treadmill and other cardio machines
    Full Weight Room
    Open space with mirrors
    Hand wraps
    Boxing gloves
    Focus Mitts
    Plyometric boxes to jump onto
    Inexperienced Sparring Partners
    Make Shift Boxing ring

Could one of you please design a routine that will improve his endurance and his chances for winning a fight. Also I am able to film him doing various drills or sparring and post the videos for critique.

If you even read all of this than thanks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again - Rob

When you say this other guy is more experienced than him...do you mean he knows how to box?

If he's had sparring experience then your mate is probably screwed

No the other guy has never trained at a boing gym or had a trainer but he is older and has a speed bag and heavy bag in his garage that he trains with often. I know this doesn't make him a good fighter but he is more experienced then my friend. Does anyone have any advice?

        Hey

Dont waste a day, start training tommarow morning. Make him run, Make him lift, and make him spar you and a couple of your friends. I started training a couple weeks ago and i feel AMAZING. Before you know it he will be up around 195 or 200 and you will be seeing people gettin knocked out. Dont expect big changes soon, but they will come fast. USE ALL THE MATERIALS YOU HAVE, Like the heavy bag, jump rope, etc.

Good Luck, and dont let anyone tell you your not good enough.

if he got the basics down, then he should be sparring, then sparring, then sparring and then some more sparring.

the other guy has never boxed, has a couple of bags, but those bags dont teach you to take a punch, so my guess would be, that the first time he gets hit somewhat hard, he will tense up, lose stamina, composure and technique.

You want your mate to feel comfortable with getting punched, so he can stay more composed and relaxed while boxing. That can make all the difference in the world.

spar, but do it lightly, so it feels comfortable, then when thats too easy, you step it up a notch, faster and harder punches, but remember, to pregress in a tempo, that your mate feels comfortable with, as its him thats stepping up.

as it would be too much to spar everyday, you should work on a cardio programme, start out a little easy, get the feel of the exercises and then, just like with the sparring, you step it up.

and of course post a vid after the event ;-)
