Have your carbs before and during training. If you are looking to lose fat, dont have any/minimum carbs after.

That is the key reason you want to stay in shape don't want to gain too much fat. If you're a pro and have a nutritionist who looks after your diet it would be easier. He would go: you're consuming 5500 calories a day, you need to lose 10 pounds of fat in one month, that's 30,000 calories, that means you can't eat more than 4500 calories a day.

4500 calories would be more than enough to not lose muscle and enough to lose the required 10 pounds.

The only thing I can recommend is to keep a strict count of your calories. There are a variety of free sites that allow you to do that - I use fitday.com.

Keep track of your calories (this won't help you NOW in the short term but will help you in the long term). You'll soon see, as you keep track of your carbs and your energy what your minimum carb intake is. As time goes by you'll see that that figure will go down as you get used to less carbs. (I'm a carb addict so this is the hardest thing in the world for me.)

I do/did a lot of hiking and climbing and found that I lost a lot of weight (even though I ate a lot of calories) on a beef/chicken jerky and nut/dried fruit diet.

The few times I gained weight and didn't have time to go to the trails and tried to go on the same diet while at home and it didn't work. I couldn't stick to it.

I guess when you're cold and really, really hungry anything available is good.

For an athlete, cutting back on carbs is almost always a bad choice.

Cut back on everything, fat, protein, and carbs, but keep the percentages roughly the same. Eat most of your carbs early in the day and right before workouts.

You just need to eat less. Or eat the same and work out harder. Just as long as you burn more than you take in.

OMG what good is being good at boxing if you're too fat for your weight class???

How about right now you focus on losing weight and don't worry about being slow??? And then when you're like at or around your weight class?? THEN you can start putting back carbs/calories in your diet. THEN you can worry about speed.

              For goodness sakes.
