    Rhythm Vs Staying grounded

    Hello

I've been reading Boxing Mastery by Mark Hatmaker, fantastic book, very inspiring

    His take on footwork is

    "resist the urge to bounce..."

and he talks about a more solid style of footwork, staying grounded all the time

Yet on the Kenny Weldon DVD I have the first thing he teaches is boxing rhythm

Shifting weight from front to back, and then jabbing with the rhythm

    He explains it here

    I've been working on it

I much prefer Weldons style, it keeps me relaxed, and my punches are much faster and more accurate but I wonder does it leave me open to being knocked over with a solid punch?

Which is better, which do you prefer?

Unfortunately I dont have a coach to ask at the moment as a few boxing clubs by me have shut down so I'm searching for a new one!

"Empty your mind, be formless, be shapeless. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. Put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot, now water can flow or it can crash, be water my friend." Bruce lee

Everything has a time and place for it.

Situation dictates, you can really do both. Bouncing is typically worthless though (even though I tend to do it a lot)...just wastes your energy and makes you look girly.

However, I'd say that you should do what you like best. If you prefer the one technique, do it more. Don't worry about getting knocked down. It's just a point.
