Do you fight well at that weight? If so, then it's perfect. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Thomas Hearns was 6'1" or so and fought at that weight for years, and he's an ATG. The people who say that it's not good are the people who are more committed to physique than boxing.

yeah you have some big time reach advantage over the majority of guys at welterweight.. just bear in mind being that tall means you'll need to protect that thin torso from body punchers

when i first started boxing i was 6'0 and weiged even less, 141. i started listening to ppl who didnt really know **** about boxing and tried to look my best rather than perform at my best.
i put on like 20lbs, i looked great but i fought like crap. i did have the frame to carry the weight but very thin bones and didnt respond well to the new muscle from a boxing standpoint. i lost alot of hand speed, foot speed, my punches got heavier but had less snap on em, lost stamina etc.
i dropped back down and i can honestly tell u that if the 160lb version of me fought the 141lb version the 141lb version would box circles around him, wear him down and knock him out easily. im older and taller now, 19 years old 6'2 & 1/5 tall but i still make 141. im not on a diet to keep weight of, i eat loads but my methabolism just works that way. i dont look that skinny either, i look well over 160lbs which is strange.
the point is dont train for the scales or the mirror, train for ability. work hard and listen to your body, dont stuff yourself trying to gain weight or starve yourself trying to lose it. focus on stamina, speed, strenght (in that order) and u cant go wrong.

At 147lbs even though its only a bit heavier I look great, my body looks much more muscular and I look alot healthier and feel good, but at 140lbs, my body looks thin and frail. But the thing is I can make 140lbs easily, and it also means my food bill is cheaper, plus I'd have a pretty good height advantage at light welterweight so there is that.
But overall I just feel happier at 147lbs, I dont think I lose any speed really and I feel a little bit stronger (seriously my body looks like a stick at 140lbs as I have a slim frame in general).
So yeah Im thinking of fighting at 147lbs, I know I'll lose a nice height advantage, although I'll still be pretty tall for my weight, main thing is Ive noticed there is alot of difference between welterweights and light welterweights in terms of power, you get some big punchers in the welterweight division, whereas its more of a rarity in the light welters.

at the end of the day if a guy can punch its because of his technique and possibly strength not his weight.. so worry more on how good you are and less about how heavy you are (especially if you are a good height for your weight)

in the amateur ranks light welterweight is 141 and welterweight is 152.
