Body Punching: Where to aim for...

    Hey guys,

I have been boxing for a couple of years but I recently started a new gym which has a big focus on conditioning the body. We do a drill where we hit each other in the body 100 times in various places. Previous to this when sparring I would always aim for the green circle (see picture) when trying to jab or cross to the body. Only now that I have taken shots during this drill have I realised punches in this area have little to no effect and shots in the red circle, even with much less power are the ones that really hurt and take a lot more out of you.

Not sure if this concept is the same for hooks to the body but if anyone would care to illustrate the correct spot to aim yours hooks it would be much appreciated. Hope this helps guys

These are the spots that will have the bigger effects.

        Sternum
        Pit of the stomach

But when you hook somebody to the body you really want to aim your punch under the last rib. On the right side is the liver, on the left side there are no vital organs but it`s still soft tissue, you can hurt somebody with a body shot on the left side, it`s not as good as the liver shot but it still works.

just a little bit above the belt, hit any areas that are open, dont be afraid to hit the arms as this will tire an opponent and let them put there hands lower which will give you cleaner punching room along the cranium area

Depends on what punch you're throwing and where you are in relation to your opponent. One of my favorite maneuvers is to slip inside of his jab and throw a simple straight right hand right at his heart.

That slip inside the jab right hand is a good one, but be careful not to do it too often, because you leave yourself open for a right uppercut or a right hand.

The best time to work the body is when you have him on the ropes. They often dont score body shots in the ams, so try and mix them up with headshots.

Double jab cross to put him on the ropes, then one two, left rip to the liver, right uppercut to the solar plexus, step back, long one two to the head, the left rip again, come back up with a left hook to the head...etc

Another way to score with body shots is to make them nice and long, almost throwing them with a straight arm, and stepping st the same time.

So witht he left, you throw a long rip with your left, almost with a straight arm, and you step out with your right foot at the same time. It has an OK chance of scoring if it's loud and it lands clean, and it will hurt like a ***** if you catch them in the solar plexus

Yeah uits your solar plexus and a main nerve center for your diaphram and many other organs.

many boxers adopt a crouch that brings your ribs down alittle allowing you to take tens of upper cuts and direct shots to the solar plexus. like just crouch down a littl and lightly uppercut your self in the solar plexus and you see what i mean. so try and aim more for the liver shot (last rib on the right) for guys who crouch while the solar plexus is much more damaging for some one who stands up straight.
