its best to do both. jim jeffreis would run 14 miles but he wouldnt do it at like 7 mph he would sprint some then jog some then sprint some then jog some back and forth for the whole 14 miles.
i dont think your going to be doing 14 miles but why not 5 miles where you sprint on and off for the first mile jog 2 or 3 more then sprint on and off for the last one? instead of having separate days for sprinting and separate days for distance running.
also running too much can cause an unbalance in your muscles resulting in injury, if you end up feeling real sore in the knees i recommend going for a bike ride every once and while too.
