Which is better? Calisthenics or Weights?

Which type of workout is better for getting a built and cut physique like GSP (Georges St. Pierre, MMA)? Currently I do a mix of both weights/machine work and body resistance exercises, and I'm the guy in my avatar so you can see the results there. However, I'm not really content since I've definitely got muscle but theres still plenty of room for improvement both in size, strength, and definition. I used to be bigger and more muscular (and less cut) when I took protein powder, but I've since stopped using that, and dropped like 5 - 10 lbs of muscle as a result (and gotten leaner/more defined). However, I want a perfect balance of muscle size and definition, and guys like GSP seem to have that down perfectly. I'm not sure if I should stop doing weights entirely and just focus on body weight to get more cut, or if I should do more weights to bulk up, or just try for an even balance of both.

Getting more "cut" has nothing to do with what your exercise routine is. It has to do with your diet and cardio.

Looking like GSP would take A LOT of work.

I know his training involves weights. O-Lifts and some form of Block Training

best results is to use both of them.

I know this is an stereotypical answer but the best way to get cut is to watch your diet.

Hey thanks guys. What about protein powders? The one I used to take was nothing fancy; it was low in basically everything but protein (i.e. low calories, cholesterol), and I used to take about 25g per day, 5 days a week. Should I go back to supplementing protein somehow or just make do with regular diet?

To put on lean muscle you need to consume protein. Both from food and shakes.

1.5g per lb of bodyweight per day is what I'd aim for.

isolate protein would be the best. Mix it with water (8oz). You can mix it with milk but mixing it with water will reduce the calories that your going to be getting from the milk.

If you want to cut really, it is all in your diet and cardio like others have said. That should be your main focus; nutrition.

Honestly it's your diet. I have experience in both bodyweight and lifting. You can get cut from both. The main focus is DIET. As the saying goes abs are made in the kitchen.
