    Fight April 17, Need To Get In Shape Quick

    This will be my second amatuer fight at school and I have been training since about the beginning of February. I however feel that I'm still not prepared.
    I will be fighting 3 Rounds 1 minute each with 16oz. What can I do to prepare for 3 mintues without gassing? I gassed last year but trained even less and underestimated my opponent.

      Interval training?

      Basically you want your body to be able to use everything it has 3 times in one minute bursts, I suggest you do your exercises and drills like that.

            Thanks, thats exactly what I was thinking about doing. There is an empty track right on my block, I'm starting tomorrow.

              3x1 min rounds?

              That's a very short, intense fight. Get running some 400's (one lap of a running track/football field)

              warm up with some (5-10 mins) jogging etc
              then do 4x400m sprints. Have a 45 second rest between each sprint (or however long a rest you are going to get in the actual fight) The intensity on these should be all out. You should feel like collapsing after these.

              Do that 2-3 times a week I'd say, plus other training.

              Oh and you don't really need long distance to prepare for a 3x1 min round fight, won't serve any purpose at all unless you need to make weight.

              Also do some punch outs on the bag, eg: 15 seconds all out punching, 10 seconds tapping th bag with your jab moving around. Repeat 3 times. That's one set. Do two more sets, and have 40 secs between each one.

              So yeah, you are training for an extremely short fight, so short intense training is what you need.

                    yeah we have a boxing club. it isn't supported by the school though. a spanish teacher runs it because he was an amatuer and now a 2-0 pro.
