How flexible should a boxer be?

How important is for a boxer to be flexible, should a well round boxer be able to do the split, able to touch his toes while standing?
In short which muscles should definitely be flexible for the boxer and benefit him the most?

Joe Frazier recommends stretching in his book Box Like The Pros. Apparently he thinks it is important.

Flexibility is important .If your not flexible your at risk of injuries I think.I wouldnt say the full split tho .I watched Jamie Moore training strength and he was only doing quarter reps because that's where his power came from .Muay thai fighters for kicks I think not as important for boxers.Leg strength will help flexibility anyway , squats etc.

I think that it is important, and I remember I would personally stretch a lot because I had muscle problems with my legs. I was even able to touch my knees with my forehead while sitting on my ass and touching my toes with my fingers.

First of all your a boxer not a gymnast so the splits are not important. What is important is to have long slender more natural muscles. Weight lifting is very bad for boxing in my opinion. Weight lifting makes you slow and keeps you from obtaining full range of motion. Tyson was muscular, but I think sometimes it worked against him as he often came up short with his punches. In my opinion your arms and waist should be very flexible.

I've got to work on lower back flexibility now for an injury .It is important because I read when your training hard for a specific sport your major big muscles get stronger.Upper bodies solid .Lower back small muscles are getting weaker and needs flexibility .I'll just stretch them out and get them working and some blood into them.

you have to stretch, if you dont your muscles get shorter which makes them weaker. the strong muscles are the ones that are long. also when your uptight you lose speed and power. flexbility is important, you dont have to be extremely flexible doing splits and whatnot. but you cant be uptight eighter.

always stretch all of your muscles after a workout.

I always do hamstrings by putting my feet on a table and touching my toes full minute and also do lunges everyday.
