    Anyone had a shoulder operation?

I need to get both my shoulders operated, so i wanted to know if any boxers here had any type of shoulder surgery, and how are you doing today? Can you still box? Any other problems with training?

    Thank you for replying.

Nope, but I've dislocated my shoulder before. It was out of place for three hours, then they popped it back in, it was in a sling for like a month. But not it feels completely fine... Till it eventally pops out again.

Depends what you did homie, my guess would be slap-tear on the labrum or rotator cuff damage, those seem to be 2 of the most common I've seen around gyms. I was told tore the labrum 2 places, front and back and would probably need surgery. That was during my second fight February 7 (3 round fight I think I hurt in the 2nd or 3rd, won a decision and didn't feel it till the next day). I did 6 months physical therapy to avoid surgery and it got worse so I just had surgery Tuesday. Turns out I tore the labrum in 3 places, fractured and disformed the ball of the shoulder(from it dislocating and slamming back in the socket incorrectly) and had extensive damage to the rotator cuff. I'm in a sling with like 5% mobility for 6 weeks, gotta wear the sling for 3 months total. It's extremely painful and more importantly extremely uncomfortable. But this new dr is extremely confident that I will be back boxing in 7 or 8 months. My first doctor deals with a pro who fought Rocky Juarez back in the day and is now on the comeback trail. This new dr deals with a pro who has fought many big names including Joe Calzaghe, just to show they deal with serious boxers. If I can get back with these injuries, neither dr had ever seen anything like it with all the injuries at the same time, then I think just about anyone can.

Had a BAD motorcycle accident many years ago and my shoulder was shattered. It is all pinned together again. Took a lot of work to get it back to decent shape and a lot of time. I can still punch with it.

Not all operations are the same. Do what the doctor says to do. Usually, after a bit of rest, they want you to start building the shoulder back up. My shoulder wouldn't move to work back up, so I had to let my arm hang and move my body to get my arm swinging in a circle. Does not seem like much but it was PAIN. In time, it came back pretty good.

Again, do what your doctor says.
