Suuuuper beginner, can you give me some tips!

    Hey guys!

My brother got me this heavy bag like 2 weeks ago and it’s safe to say I’m obsessed with hitting the bag it’s all I want to spend my free time doing LOL. I haven’t had any sort of training at all (clearly) but I’d like to go to a boxing gym after the pandemic eases up and things open again. I just really want to improve my form so I don’t develop any bad habits but idk how long it’ll be before I can get some actual training.

Could you guys look at this video of me hitting the bag from today and let me know what I can do to improve my form (it’s pretty bad I know but I’m open to all the criticism), anything you guys notice right off the bat, and also how id go about increasing my punching power.

** I was punching the bag for a while so I’m a little tired in the video too my cardio is generally pretty good from other playing sports**

    thanks!

Where are you located? Are the gyms not open by you yet?

Bring your hands back faster after you punch.

Join a local boxing club if you want to learn how to box.

Is Ontario back on lockdown down there? I know some areas of Canada have looser restrictions than others

How far are you from Detroit?

And playing other sports is great, but it will not condition you for boxing. Only boxing can do that............Rockin'

With your jab to the body, while I like the shot, you gotta get down and throw it and the get right back up with the double up to the face/head. I do not , and will not, ever recommend throwing a jab to the body with your head sitting up on a fence post just waiting to get knocked off, get down. Why no hook after the right hands, you gotta get back in to position anyway, so why not get back there with the hook? Also, you are punching to the target. If you want to build strong than punch through the target. What opponent is going to ever let you just touch him with your left hand after you bust him in his chops with that right hand? Get out oif the habit of touching the bag after a combo. Your double hooks, while quick, only have arm power behind then. Get down and find that power, dig! Power comes from the ground up. You stand straight up like every other Canadian that I fought. Get down and dig those hooks and right hands. Other than that, good effort.

Post up another vid with those mistakes corrected.............Rockin'

Thanks man! Exactly what I need very specific points, much appreciated. I’ll work on all of that

I’m pretty far out from Detroit, hoping to hop into some boxing clubs around the Toronto area.
