    Toughman training

What do yall recommend for this toughman contest coming up in Feb 2010?
Be Boxing in the 140-159 Division..

Toughman?? Lol, dude all you will need to do is get into good shape and throw straight punches, keeping your hands up.

Run 4 times per week, make 2 of the runs about 3-5 miles long, going as quickly as you can over that distance, pushing yourself. And then the other two times do some different running, such as:
.Find an oval, running track, park, just a good flat space to do sprints on
.Jog for 5 minutes to warm up
. Mark out 50 yards (doesnt have to be exact), then sprint the 50 yards as hard as you can, jog back at a brisk pace but slow enough to slow down your breathing and give you time to recover, then when you are back at the start, repeat it again 8-10 times, it will be pretty hard but PUSH YOURSELF, if you are in shape you have a good chance of winning these toughman things

And of course do all your regular boxing stuff such as sparring etc....

You do understand that if you participate in a Toughman you will never be able to compete as an amateur boxer, right?

Why not learn to box? I mean, Toughman is the wheelchair ramp of combat sports.

Interesting. The USA Boxing application I signed back in 2006 mentions Toughman by name, and specifically states that you cannot have participated in a Toughman contest.

Lying on your application for your passbook is grounds for disqualification and if I ever found out one of my opponents had fought in a Toughman I'd

a.) have him barred from the am's forever,

          and

b.) petition USA Boxing to have all his fights since his first Toughman credited to his opponents by walkover retroactively, whether he won or lost.

Here's the link to the law:

101.9(1) Professional boxers and individuals that have competed in professional combat sports, mixed martial arts, toughman, and cage fighting may not compete in amateur boxing.

One of the reasons this rule exists is so that you don't get a guy with ten Toughman fights showing up in the "novice" category for his "first" boxing match.

What keeps this sport safe is obeying the rules. I've come to have very little respect for any ******* who cheats at boxing. Doesn't matter whether it's a rabbit punch or a lie on a tournament application, it reflects badly on the sport and it makes your buddy a douche.

I trained for one a couple of years ago but chickened out at the last minute and went to watch it instead, I would have been fighting big dudes because I weighed over 170 at the time and was only like 5'-8.5" against light heavies or something not going for that.

He is right brother.. Dont waste your time.. Find a club that promotes USA boxing. You will get proper instruction for the most part. You dont need that half butt crap.

One of the reasons are the winner of each division gets 1000 Dollars. Another theres no good gyms around here.. I have a small plate in my head so I prolly never will be able to compete in ams. better yet prolly won't be able to compete in the toughman.
