The Shoulder roll + being a Southpaw v Othrodox

Different opinions, myself don't see any problems.

Let's say your a southpaw v Orthodox, surely me using my left hand to guard up and down against his big right would be the best and rolling just his weaker hand (jabbing hand) only with the shoulder would be perfectly all right.

Either way whether you take shots from left, right, top or bottom you roll / turn with it like you see Floyd Mayweather jr do when he's against the ropes (e.g. keeps twisting from side to side).

I see some people say you roll into his big hand, well if you can't somehow manage to quickly roll the incoming shot from that side as well (With the hand up against the chin as well) then the style isn't right for the person obviously (lack of Speed & reflexes), not like it matters when your square on and against the ropes.

Looks like its a matter of opinion, I use it against my friend and I don't see any problem, and I implement weaves and such as well and it works against him anyhow.

yea i think that style of defense is most effective thats the one i use and it just feels more natural and ur never unable to counter.

lol. Nah, the problem with that is the right hand of the orthodox. You can't roll it. You can't use your left hand to block it either. The parrying/slap down is for jabs not straights. You can't twist and try to block with your left because it will leave you vulnerable big time and plus, it wont work well when blocking a straight.

The best bet for a shoulder roll-Southpaw vs Orthodox, is to **** off the jab roll. When you roll the jab, you have to be quick to pull the trigger because the orthodox guy is open for a split second, very vulnerable in that position.

Same thing if you reverse rolls. Orthodox-shoulder roll vs Southpaw. Same exact thing. It's kryptonite to the shoulder roll. Unless you have freakish RJJ reflexes or Mayweather timing. Even then, the shoulder roll has big problems against the opposite stance.

And it does matter when your against the ropes, big time. Shoulder roll is used when in the pocket, in the phonebooth. Against the ropes, your are in that range. If you use the shoulder roll from afar, your doing it wrong from the gitgo.

I recently used it southpaw (I'm a switch hitter) against orthodox. And I have to say.... fuck that ****. I never use it southpaw anyways but I decided to(because I was southpaw stanced at the time) and it's hard.

Watch, go ahead and use it like you said but in the pros. It's not gonna end well.

I box southpaw and have tried to do it. I have more sucess with it when I spar a slow-handed fighter. If the guy I'm sparring is quick, then I won't use it as much if at all and stick to a Winky-like guard though I have a tendency of dropping my right hand like Lucien Bute, that's probably the boxer I resemble the most.
