Learning to be a skilled fighter is not something that you will learn quickly. It takes many years of dedicated practice to become proficient with the art. Your trainer is correct in first focusing to get you into proper condition before he gets you into anything major. Along the way with the conditioning I am sure that he will be showing you things that might not seem that exciting right now. He will probably show you how to shoot a proper jab, but your probably wanting to know how to knock somebody out with an uppercut. Be patient and follow his instructions. The small things that he will be teaching you during your conditioning are the things that are going to build a solid foundation with, proper stance, jab, right and defensive techniques. Build that foundation strong at the beginning and you will find that you will progress through the more advanced things in boxing much easier. Sounds to me like you have a good coach, who is going to do things the right way and look out for you, that is a major plus.............Rockin'

      3 rounds speed bag
      3 rounds double end bag
      3 rounds heavy bag
      3 rounds focus mits

Focus mits are key to learning skill. They are the best way to learn skill other than sparring.

Boxing requires both skill and physical condition. Thus, you should be working on both. If you work on conditioning when ur not with your trainer, your trainer won't feel like he has to condition you so much. besides, skill means nothing if u can only last for one round.
