every pitcher I ever known in real life had a good punch with his pitching hand.
resistance training is better...goto academy and get the extreme (should be less than 25.00) resistance band...

Shot putting is better than throwing I think.Not so much stress on the joints and tendons and the movement is more similar to a punch.
Ross Enamait recommends exercises like this.
