    Wrist pain(need advice.)

I'm taking the summer off from the gym until the end of august, because most of the trainers and my sparring partners won't be there either. Haven't been there since the first week of june, however i keep training at home, i run, i hit the bag, i lift, ect.

Everything was fine until last week, i was hitting the bag and i started feeling a mild pain in my wrist. It mostly happens when i land a very hard right hook, the weird thing is that it's not all the time, i can throw 20 right hook and not feel anything, then it just hurts randomly.

I thought it might be because i landed a bad punch, i have a 300 pounds custom made punching bag. But even then i had that bag for 2 years and this is the first time it happens.

I also noticed it hurts a bit when i do push ups. It doesn't seem to be getting worst, but it doesn't seem to be going away either.

What do you guys think? Anybody ever had a similar problem? Any suggestions?

I'm paranoid that it might be arthritis from all those years of boxing.

A lot of injuries take more than a few days to heal enough to prevent reinjury from stress.

As for the seemingly random occurence, this makes me think it's a misthrown punch. I know you've been boxing for years, but throwing a hook is a delicate thing, it's not difficult to injure your wrist. Consider leaving right hooks out of your training for awhile and see if the pain goes away.

If you wrap your wrist very well, it's hard to injure a wrist. However, a perfect wrap takes a lot of time and tape, and most people don't have it done before every training session. At the same time, if you do wrap your wrists, you might get lazy about technique. Semi-good wraps can be dangerous because of this, though they do provide good protection for the knuckles. I do a fair amount of bag work without wraps.

Thanks, i'm also thinking a misthrown punch. I do wraps my hands pretty well, i use 2 pairs of 180 cm mexican style wraps, so 2 wraps per hand basically and i have a good pair of bag gloves.

I think what i will do is just stop bag work for a week or two, i'll hit the double end bag, speed bag, and shadow box. Hopefully it will go away and i'll be able to do some bag work soon.

This is frustrating, i have been getting in great shape since the beginning of the summer. Hope this won't stop me for too long.

300lb bag?!?!?! That might have something to do with it. If your hitting a bag of that size, your wrists are going to get wear and tear from that thing.

I'm always very carefull as to letting my fighters know they shouldn't pound on the heavy bag for too long. Most people think it's there to drop bomb after bomb on that but if you are a serious boxer or want to be, I would take it easy on the hands.

After years of boxing my hands don't look too good and don't feel too good either. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with hand pain from it. Be very carefull and take it easy. No matter how much you wrap your hands, they will break down if you abuse them.

been having the same problem, throwing bombs with my right hand and now my wrist is messed up, especially when I throw the right hook, nothing much you can do expect let it heal COMPLETELY, and make sure you wrap then tape your hands up, and go easier on the heavy bag.

I defintley think you should find extra padding like some sort of sponge foam under your wraps thats what i done.Be carefull you don't get caparal tunnel syndrome. You should'nt be battering your wrist or any joints like that when training.

I broke my right wrist on a motorcycle accident a few yrs ago, ever since I get pain when I throw hard body shots to the bag, if I sparr I dont get any pain thou. Take care of your wrist, let it heal, that pain will be there for a long time.
