no its not a waste of time as long as your lifting correctly. it is extremely difficult to overwork your body without professional training or being very motivated and also being in an extremely high level of fitness. people usually have misconceptions on over working. if your sleeping right and eating right and workout out a lot and your body is not functioning properly then yes you are overworking but if you arent sleeping enough then you arent sleeping enough same with eating. it takes a serious amount of working out to begin to say your overworking.

great reply. Also, it takes a seriously minimal amount of under eating/drinking/sleeping to have the same effect.

Do different muscle groups on the various days (usually 2 at same time is good) and try to avoid putting muscles together that work in tandem such as chest and triceps (eg.tri's get little worked out in benching) or shoulders and back. Instead do the back with the legs, the shoulders with the triceps, and the biceps with the chest!
If you are boxing or competing in sport, then calisthenics are harder and better for you as you are moving your body through space which gives you more functional strength. Did you know that dips and pull ups work nearly every muscle in your upper body? Add a dipping belt and you can even add size (eg. if someone plays rugby and not boxing or they just want to pose) while gaining functional stregth!

I've been doing too much weights. balooned up to 260lbs. oddly i'm just as fast as i used to be and now have great power. however, i get tired VERY quickly.
as a boxer i think once a week is about what you want.
