Trying to learn how to use the mitts after all these years.

I have set of punching mitts from when i was 16 (my mom bought me tons of boxing stuff to deal with my parents getting divorced) i'm 30 now, gave up on dreams of being a pro boxer as soon as I realised i don't like getting hit. Well a friend and I want to **** around with all that equiptment again, rather than just leave it in the garage (cause we're getting fat). I never learned how
to use the mitts and body suit correctly, nor do i know what there purpose is for...

anyone willing to explain it to me or point me in the right direction?

Well I hold pads and I am exceptionally good at it. Every fighter/person throws there punches different. I mean EVERYONE. Some telegraph there punches, some drop a tad bit, some shake there hand all kinds of ****. When your holding pads be sure to always keep your eyes on the punches. This will also make you see your vision alot better (in the ring I mean). When they throw the jab when there arm reaches almost or full extension just push the pad forward with enough force to make them know they hit it. Dont smack there hand or you can **** up there hand. then go slow with the combinations just get the basic jab, cross first. Then move onto jab cross hook, then jab cross upper, then when you get those down youl eventaully be able to tell them to throw other combinations (cross, upper, hook and other crazy fun stuff). Hope this helps

Good answer from LetsgetSavage!! If i can add one more thing... If you have a heavy bag that's also laying around that would be a great place to start if you are wanting to get back into the grove of things. Especially if you are looking to drop a few pounds...

My collection consists of the following - none of which i know how to use properly - A heavy bag, a double end bag, a speed bag, mitts, body suit, gloves, etc.

I would love the know how to use all of them properly.

Hmm.. not bad. Looks like you have a nice collection of stuff. Well, if you're not looking to hit a boxing gym (which would ne a good idea to try and get to know your way around some of the equipment) you can go on youtube and do a search on the equipment you have. Believe it or not, you'll be surprised on how much stuff you can learn by watching those videos...

I think video training is excellent as well. Pay close attention to the footwork as there is pretty much a step or a pivot with every punch.

For just getting in shape, you should be great with what you have, if you want to spar or use your skills, you definitely want someone who knows what they are doing to see you. 2 minute rounds to start with on the bags and pads (including body pad) and you will be golden (and tired).
