    1st Time Sparring

    Hey Guys,
    I had my first sparring session in 6 years (I was playing hockey during that time), and it didn't go so well. I'm 6'1", 152, so estalishing my jab is important. I was sparring against a guy who was 6'3", 165, and as soon as the bell rang, I threw my game plan out the window. Have any of you guys had problems with sticking to your plan once you started sparring? And if so, what can I do to fix it? Thanks guys.

    dont try to win the sparring session and focus on what you have to do, that comes with experience.

      your first times sparring you're going to have not one enemy in the ring but 2, your opponent and yourself. once you can overcome yourself and your doing everything right in your training then your opponent should be the easy part. spar as much as you can whenever you can. usually the first couple of times your instincts will always get the best of you. its a battle against what is natural for anyone. its fight or flight syndrome. when you get hit your brain instinctively switches that on and your given 3 choices. stand and fight, run away, or ball up in fear. you have to train yourself to stay and fight and with time you'll get more comfortable and you wont be afraid to get hit(if thats the case). once you can train yourself to relax even in the eye of the storm then all that's left is for you to concentrate on reading your opponent and doing what you trained to do.
