    Weird Pain below Armpit? What is this?

    Hello,
    Long story;
    Thursday was light sparring day/practice combinations, etc. and when you're in the ring it's either half sparring or full sparring, whichever you and your opponent agree upon. My partner, who was preparing for a match that coming Saturday, decided to go full boar when we agreed on medium sparring.

    Problem:
    In return? Me excessively jabbing/throwing hard hooks (south paw) and now I've got this deep pain in my muscle below my armpit. It's apart of my wing muscle, I suppose, or the scapula. It's very, very high on my wing muscle, if it is.

    Question: How long will this pain last? It's definitely not excessive soreness. Or a pulled muscle. I've had really bad soreness before, but this is just pain. It doesn't hurt when I flex it, but if I use it, it eventually just hurts and aches.

    How long does this last? Should I lay off the gym?

    Haha yeah it shouldn't last more than 3-4 days if you stretch and take something to aid muscle recovery.

        Yes cause it happened to me when I first started training. Well I guess it could depend on how your body is but I would say 3-4 days.

        I went to they gym on a Friday and the pain was bad. But it went away the following Tuesday.

          Sounds like the pain is coming from your lats. When you throw a hard punch and miss, you instinctively use the pulling action of the lat to quickly pull the arm back to your guard, or at least to keep the force of the punch from pulling you off balance and uproot you.

          Do some lat stretches and it should be fine. If you can afford it, get a shiatsu treatment or a massage. I personally think all fighters would benefit greatly from monthly shiatsu treatments.

            if your lats are sore, consider it a good thing. it means your starting to really find that specific muscle and it will work for your future muscle memory...

                It's breast cancer.

                  That would be funny......if it were funny. It's really not. A lot of people die from breast cancer. My mom was diagnosed with it when I was 14. So...joke? No. Keep it to yourself.
