It seems I tend to try to be to smart when I'm throwing my shots, occasionally not throwing shots for ages, while my opponents in spar matchs are throwing countless punches, ofc I block a lot of the punches but I would like it if I could to.. It seems when I am sparring people, I just move towards them or away from them in a freeze mode, where I am not throwing any punches for ages. Please help anyone... My trainer advised me to just be more on the attack, but obviously thats what I am trying.

2. In sparring use your jab as 'defence' when you move in, out and around from a person.
3. There is nothing wrong with what you're doing, as long as your strength is actually picking your shots and getting them.

1) I guess I could do that more often, do you mean punch lots of times with no technique for like bursts of 30 seconds? Or just technique and punch it but faster? I do bursts of 30 seconds often, but for fitness mainly and stamina.
2) To be honest, never really thought of it that way. Mainly saw the jab as a set up for my other shots or to score points. See how it would work though, as it makes people flinch giving you time to get away.
3) True, but not all my shots land which is why I need to increase my work rate.
Thanks for all the comments guys.

2) Yeah, jabbing can keep them at a distance, distract and test them and also help you find your reach.
3) Not all your shots do land but make sure you don't increase your punch rate and just rely on lucky shots.

Mate, i used to have the same problem but what you should do is while on the bag. Do a 3 punch combo then a 5 punch, then 7, then 9, then 11 then work your way back down and try and make each combo a bit different.but while your thinking of a different combo move around and throw a jab then get straigth back into it.

Nice angus the bull, I will try that. Did you do like 2 minute rounds on the bag or?
Hm guys, another one I should of mentioned that I kinda forgot to mention is I have an tendency to walk into shots when I am in freeze mode when moving forwards. This is not all the time, if it wasn't for my decent chin, i'd be seeing stars... (a 54kg 5ft 5 man walking into a 75kg mans right hand? ouch....) To counter this, I hope to use more head movement (I do use head movement when I am not in freeze mode)... My guard is always high, but I need to block/parry more. Bah.
