Would doing just tabata sprints (5 minute warm up, 4 minutes tabata sprints, 5 minute cooldown) for roadwork good enough, or is it necessary to add some long distance roadwork? How about HIIT? Would HIIT suit boxing better than tabata sprints? They're both kinda different, one has you sprint for longer amounts of time in each interval, but also has you go at a slow pace for longer amounts of time. They're both very intense, but I read that tabata makes very good contributions to aerobic fitness (supposedly better than an hour of jogging) as well, I'm not sure how good HIIT is at that. Any thoughts?

cool. Well I was thinking about doing tabata sprints three times a week on the same day I box, and then lifting two times a week on those days I don't do boxing and maybe do some burpee conditioning on that 6th day and taking the 7th off. I might mix it up, maybe every three weeks substitute something for HIIT, I'm not sure.

I tend to switch it a bit, follow a few of Ross Enamait's routines from Infinite intensity, generally do them the same day as other fitness work. At my club there is at least an hour or more of fitness before sparring/technique work so don't generally need to do other burpees, etc. So i'll generally do tabata's those three days. The other 4 days (or 3 days and a day of rest) are 2 of strength and 2 of other conditioning exercises (GPP and warrior challenges) with 2 or 3 HIIT sessions and core work. Just make sure to mix up the intervals you are running (100's all the way up to 800's) I don't really like 1500's as I don't find them to be that benefitial for me. But variety is defently the key, stops you from becoming bored with your workouts and gets maximum gains.
You do sound like you have quite a good workout though, anyone who does tabata's is generally pretty damn fit, as they certainly aren't for the weak hearted
