    What specific benefits does the speed bag give you?

      So basically what your saying is, if I train with the speed bag everyday I'd be more accurate with my punches?

        nottttttt necessarily... but to a degree yes... as you dont punch someone in the face the way you hit a speedbag..

        for punch accuracy, i would use the double end bag.

        the speed bag is just to increase your hand eye coordination, almost like an exercise... and also like i said before... muscle stamina in your arms.

          My trainer stressed the importance of the speed bag so Im sure there is some pretty beneficial aspects of it. One thing I will say is it definitely conditions your arms basically trains them to battle fatigue. IMO.

            I'm not fast and tricky on the speedball but it plays a huge part in my training. I have had huge results from it in other areas of my boxing. I use it for:

            -muscle endurance
            -helping to keep my hands up (the endurance and habitual sides of this)
            -speed which has come from better endurance
            -keeping punches straight and accurate (i do repetitive 1-2's on the bag these days and focus on my technique)

              it's the best thing to practice the left hook, like freddy roach says the ball is more like hitting someone's chin than the heavybag or punch mitts

                Timing, hand eye co-ordination and conditioning for shoulders in particular. People don;t realise but such conditioning helsp you sustain speed. You will only realise when you have a long lay-off due to injury and comeback to throw one fast jab and you're out! That is when you realise how much this exercise, floor-to-ceiling ball and hand weights do actaully help your sustained speed. I guess that is what people mean when they say such exercises makes one faster.

                  I personally feel the speed ball borders on useless. In my opinion, its only legitimate use is showing off. There are better ways to fatigue your shoulder and build endurance. There are better ways to build boxing specific coordination. I think it is a waste of time. Time much better spent on a double ended bag.
