16oz gloves? WTF. Give your mate a ****ing slap. Wear hand wraps only. I never saw anyone do them with sparring gloves ever. i have seen very thin and very worn out bag gloves being used though.

Yeah. I know this is an old post. I'm posting to this because of everyone's answer. Seems AS IF everyone is worried what others will think of them. This post will come up in a Google search for "speed gloves" in general.
YES! You can use 16oz Gloves for a speedball to increase speed. Kovalev does it: search in YouTube "Kovalev Speed Bag With 16 Ounce Gloves"
ODD. I joined ages ago but never posted. Says I just joined.Last edited by Cypocryphy; 05-01-2020, 12:20 AM.

My coach strictly advised me of using gloves. Once during punching hard, i faced a problem in my wrist, that pain kept me away from training for a long period of time. Now i often prefer good quality gloves for enough support and strength while punching.

I can see using gloves of some sort when hitting a bigger, working type speed bag. The smaller speed bags are practically weightless. I cant see using much more than hand wraps with the small ones. That said, there are probably some guys somewhere doing it.
