Ok so I sparred tonight with this southpaw dude who Ive probably sparred about 5 times, idk what was wrong with me but I felt like I was getting battered. I was getting hits in and stuff but he just kept coming, and every time he charged at me I would tense up in defense mode or try to exchange and get the worst of it. Ive done pretty good against him a couple times. Ive been boxing about 5 months and hes about 15 or 20 pounds more than me, after those 3 ****ty rounds of sparring, we did just jabs and I did just fine got some good jabs in and hit his body some times. I dont know I had to get this off my chest I feel really frusterated right now, does anyone else had troubles sparring in their earlier sparring years. Thanks.

As angus said try the right hand leads, also go with straight right hands to the body(southpaws find these very uncomfortable) & use the left rip off combos - watch how jaun manual fights manny, thats the way ur ment to fight southpaws
Everyone has bad days in the gym mate, you got to want it mate & let dont anything phase you

Try to always keep your lead foot outside of his. This can cause all sorts of mayhem for a southpaw who relies on his left hand. Also southpaws have a difficult time seeing straight rights, so try feeding those upstairs and downstairs. As you get better you will get better at deducing what’s going wrong when you spar and adapting to it.

One thing I use as a southpaw when people try to run me over is the rear upper cut as a counter. Slip about 45 degrees back and towards my rear hand (in your case right) and throw that uppercut right under their punch. When their head bounces up, usually they take that as a sign to stop pressing forward.
