    Guard

Whats the most effective guard to use in AM?

    Peekaboo?
One with ur hands by the side of your head? (When I do this I cant see hooks coming so I was told to have my lead hand out a bit)

Theres no magic guard. Its you and your opponent that makes something effective, your skill and his skill. Hands up chin down dude.

        For for the replies guys..

I see mayweather changes his guard to lots of different things.. Is it better do do that and keep yo9ur opponent thinking or do like Cotto just hands up chin down?

Recently i'm starting to prefer to loosen up abit, have a high guard, like the peek-a-boo but with my palms facing forward. It feels more comfortable and I can throw punches quicker and better. I also actually try and defend whilst when I have my backs of hands facing forward I tend to just absorb shots.

          What do you lot reckon?

I think peek-a-boo leaves you open for a straight 1-2 down the middle...especially when you have your palms facing your opponent...

I dunno it just feels like an outside stance to me... NOT a stance you would use as a basic outside stance... just sumthin you would use every now and then.

I think it's about what's natural to you because I don't really react to a punch by trying to catch it or flicked it away, people who do feel comfortable doing that are probably best with the standard lead hand about 6 inches infront, backhand by your face. I always seem to prefer to try and slip the punches, even when practicing defences at the gym my body just tries to slip but then I try and catch because i'm told to and then it just becomes some mangled mess of me slipping with a hand up haha. If I slip, i'm fine though. So I imagine if I tried placing my lead infront of me, i'd be far more open.

What defences do you alot use?

My defense is odd really. I keep my hands up, but i move my right hand infront of my chin to block shots and usually use my left hand to block jabs.

I also tend to drop my left hand when im out of range, but bring it back up when my oppenent is closer.

I slip punches when on the ropes, and sometimes in the centre of the ring. Normally to avoid shots i step back when they throw and counter if they move forward.

Like i said weird, i do lots of different things.

My favourite technique is slipping the jab and coming back with a right hand as i can do it quickly.
