BIKRAM CHALLENGES FIVE MEN FROM DIFFERENT ATHLETIC BACKGROUNDS
A FEATURE FOR A TOP MEN’S ****ZINE
Bikram Yoga is the favourite yoga of many top athletes and sportsmen, including top basketball players, pentathletes, boxers, runners, martial artists, ballet dancers and champion body builders. When Bikram first arrived in the USA he coached the Russian Olympic Team and they improved their record times after only a month of yoga.
We love working with athletes and have put together this challenge to see if we can gather more information about how yoga can help different types of sports.
We present a challenge to five keen sportsmen. These could be (but not limited to):
v Boxer
v Rugby player
v Martial artist
v Runner
v Weight lifter
v Tennis player
For the Bikram Challenge the 5 sportsmen will receive 2 private lessons as a group from Michele Pernetta, the top Bikram Yoga teacher in the UK and the one who brought Bikram Yoga over here from America. They will also participate in one standard class.
Bikram Yoga is performed in a room heated to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, as this is the temperature at which muscles perform at their optimum and reduces the risk of injury. The “winner” will be awarded a free 6-month membership worth £700.
We would like to observe the strengths and weaknesses each sport creates in the body, and how yoga can help sportsmen improve their flexibility, stamina and help resolve any chronic injuries.
As an added bonus, all five participants will be given the option of a free month’s pass to unlimited yoga at 5 London locations and we will see who reports the most improvement in:
Overall fitness
Flexibility
Stamina
Injury improvement
Improvement in performance at their own sport
Energy levels
We will take before and after heart rates and see who can perform the class working with the greatest effort, best breathing control and to the best ability. The expert teachers will note who improves the most after the first 3 classes, and then reassess after a month all those who continue.
The final decision as to who is best able to assimilate what the yoga has to offer will be made by Michele and a group of senior Bikram teachers on the third session.
If you decide to take us up on the month’s free yoga, we would love to check in again with you after a month to see how you feel. We will also arrange professional photographs.
This will be fun, challenging and insightful, and we guarantee you will feel better, fitter and happier!
Here's the lowdown on Bikram Yoga.
