    KO'd by a Body Shot

So yesterday, for whatever reason, our trainer decided to cancel our boxing practice, leaving a friend of mine and myself without our boxing fix.

We decide to get together and do a little sparring on our own, albeit without headgear, so we think we'll take it easy. Now, I'm maybe several weeks more experienced then my buddy, so we jab spar, and I try and help him on his defense, and then finally, we decide to play a little body shot sparring. Now doing only body shots sounds amateurish and skillless, and it was, but it was kinda fun.

Anyhow, the both of us were doing fine, landing pretty decent hits every now and then, when WHAM! he caught me with something, probably a hook or an uppercut straight to the solar plexis. ****, that hurt. I immediatly started falling back, saying "good hit, good hit", and I had to take a knee. The only thing was, I simply could not get back up again. My breath took 45 seconds to get back to me, and I felt like a *****, and then when I got back up, I was sluggish.

    Damn, I didn't even know.

I'd been Kd from a body shot before. I was sparing someone 2 weight classes above me. And i had started for pretty well, in the opening seconds i landed a good right hand, then landed 2 good solid jabs and then inclose a left hook. Then i came in with a lead right and he countered with a left hook to the body that changed my life. I took 2 steps back then took a knee. After that i was riddlesome to comit to throwing any punches and started to get pushed around letting him control the tempo and begin to land shots cause i wasnt going on the offensive

getting hit with a good body shot is the worse, cuz u take the hit, lose ur breath, back up (risk getting clocked in the head or body again), and then take a knee. it doesnt knock u down right away its a delayed pain that drops u to ur knees and it is SOOO much worse than takin a heavy shot to the head, IMO. I mean i would rather get hit in the body than in the nose, ear, temple, but that one perfect body shot sure is one cold-hearted *****!!

Yeah, it was exactly like that. I mean, for the first second, (in a weak body hit, but somewhat good) you're like meh, but then a half second later it hits you and as if in a video game takes half your stamina away. It's brutal.

A killer body shot is crippleing. I immediatly, just instantly couldn't do anything but hunch over, and then dropped to the ground. Game over. Fatility.

Yeah it happens like that. After being hurt to the body once i began to really concentrate on the body and i've dropped two people with body shots so far. But i've also low blowed all of my sparring partners...

I can honestly say from experience that I would rather get kicked in the balls than take a square left hook to the liver. It is alarming how incapacitating a body hit can be. I don't want to think about what it feels like without a glove on.

yah, when i was an am i fought this kid who was a lot like calzaghe - a bad style for me. h hit me in the liver 4 or 5 times, i don't know how i didn't go down, but i was just standing there frozen. when i see micky ward land his liver shot, and the guy just freezes, i know how that feels
