    Sparring tomorrow, first time

Tomorrow I'll be sparring for the first time. I'm not really too nervous because I already know who I'll be sparring...and frankly I don't think I have any reason to be worried. Apparently he hits hard(according to one of the trainers who worked the mitts with him one time) but other than that, he doesn't have much. Whenever he's at the gym he spends most of his time talking to people and going through a half-ass workout. Either way I'm not going to go in there trying to kick his ass or anything, but I do hope to perform well and show my trainer what I can do.

Just wanted to post about this, I'm really excited...I'd love to get a video up, but it's probably not going to happen this time. Either way I'll let you know how it goes.

For people who take videos of their training...Do you have a trainer or some random dude at the gym do it? Or do you have a friend come along for the sole purpose of getting video? Do you use a digital camera that has video capabilities or do you use a real video camera?

    Thanks.

Be careful if he hits hard, people are usually overestimating themselves when they go into their first spar(or fight for that matter) and get hit ALOT.

Everything that you do with your trainer is MUCH harder when in combat situation.

Nah I'm going to the gym at 4:30 or so...I'm going to take my camera with me and see if I can get someone to record it for me.(Is this standard?)

Have you worked on a lot of defense?

It seems like nobody really talks about simply working defense, but it's what my gym has had me doing. People just throw punches at you and you can't throw back. You just defend. It's a great system, and you usually don't get hurt, plus, it gets you moving a lot more, it teaches to protect better, and it gives you a little confidence that you can at least stay uninjured in the ring.

Well, I didn't get to spar today...I'm not really happy about that. Especially because I was expecting to spar, so I didn't have a real hard workout. If I had known from the start I wasn't going to be sparring I would have done my typical workout. Hopefully I'll be able to spar tomorrow.

We do the same thing as well. We'll pair up and have someone throw punches and the other has to use a variety of defensive moves. Occasionally you get tagged, but then you learn for next time. It's been a big help for me in full sparring.
