    quick question?

im new to boxing i have always been a fan and loved whatching big fights. but i have now started getting into shape running push ups, sit ups and chin ups an all that

i have found a boxing gym local to me but im thinking i should get in shape before starting there. my stamina is poor at the min as i smoke drink and that but i have cut down so what do you guys think get in shape first or just go for it?

You should start now. By going there, you'll get into shape and learn techniques at the same time.

100% get in shape first. when u go in there, u wanna have a step up so u can start getting attention and quality training from trainer earlier than u would if u jus went in there out of shape and they think ur jus some kid tryin to lose weight and then ur gonna leave. get in shape workout hard for about 2 months as hard as u can dedicate urself to it, then go to the gym and show them u r serious and they will train u real real good. u can get in shape at home without goin to a gym.

      RUN RUN RUN
      pushups
      pullups
      situps
conditioning routines (//krikya360.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=126603 - thread i started a while ago)
      eat right
      RUN RUN RUN
      rest
      sleep

      good luck

also i wouldnt do any heavy bag or speed bag or shadowboxing or any skill work until u get in the gym cuz u'll develop bad habits that are hard to break. so jus get ur body in good condition and learn the skills when u r in shape for that intensity.

there are benefits either way. not to be a **** speedkillz but im of the opinion that the best way to get boxing fit is to box. you'll get in shape while you learn. speedkillz has given the other side of the coin. up to you to decide

makes sense too, but i seen guys come to the gym way out of shape and trainers dont put TOO MUCH time into them cuz they either get tired too fast or give up or dont work as hard, but if u go in there in great condition, they will think ur for real and can handle the load, so u get more attention. so thats my opinion. both sides are true, up to the dude to decide.

Both these guys made great points. I'd recommend you go to the gym now. If you really are dedicated and willing to work hard the trainers will see that and see your improvement so you'll get the attention sooner or later. In the meantime you will be learning while you get in shape. If they're good trainers they'll also probably push you harder than you would push on your own and should have the knowledge to give you workouts that you know will help you for boxing.

I've got a question related to what speed kills said about trainers taking you seriously... I'm in portland for 6 months doin school and then i'm gonna move back home to cali. I've never trained to box before, so this would be my first time in a boxing gym... do you think I should tell em I'll be leaving from the start? I like to be honest, but I don't know if they'll take me seriously if I'm just gonna up and leave on em after 6 months of training to be an amatuer...

Also, I've been working out and running a lot. I'm 5'11" and weigh 170. I know I need a lot more conditioning and roadwork, but I don't think getting in shape will be the trainer's first concern if they don't like that i'll be leaving.
