    Beginner: looking for advice

Hey everyone I just started boxing like 6 weeks ago at a local gym. Im 19 y/o, almost 6'2, 170 pounds. I really enjoy boxing and have always been a fan but i played baseball and basketball in high school and never had the time. I'm in pretty good shape but def. good be in better. So far everythings been going pretty well for me except speedbag i cant seem to get it down? Any tips? I sparred for the first time last week. Most of the kids in the gym are far more advanced than me soo I was a little nervous. Coachs said i did well. Went three rounds with a kid who had been doing it for a year. Given I had nearly 4 inchs on him i used the jab a lot and kept him at bay but also landed some rights. However took a beating to the body when he came inside. So I'm just looking for any advice on advancing myself? Workout/diet tips? When should I start considering an amateur fight? Anything would be helpful

dont bulk up you want to stay around 168 and get down to 160 for the weigh in, you should be fighting at middleweight imo. continue working on the jab, im assuming u have long arms for your size since u talked about jabbing and landing a cross or 2 here and there. its good that you played baseball and basketball especially, since football players usually lift too much weight to make a proper transition to boxing. they get bulky.

but anyway, the jab is everything.

Yeah, what's up with that finger?

As for the thread, like he said, stay light. Use your reach.
