    Had 1st Spar Today

    Hello Everyone,

Today I had my first sparring match. I have been going to the gym doing the boxing classes for almost 1 month now. All I can say is..Sparring is fun as hell

The guy I fought, it was his second time sparring. He was a tad bit taller, but I had arm length against him. He is also a southpaw, which threw me off a bit.

First round was a bit shaky, just exchanging punches. He's alot more aggressive, I need to work on that.

Second round was better, I hit him with some good crosses, and he had to take a second or two to adjust. Good time to get more punches in, but I backed off. Then towards the end he hit with with a cross right at the lip, close to busting. Did not bother me.

Third round I tried to throw more hooks, but everytime id come with a hook he'd be right in my face with the jabs, throwing me off.

I dont think there were any body shots taken, I need to work on that. It was very fun none the less. I will be back for more this Saturday haha.

I will probably fight him again, any ideas for one who has more distance to land some nice hooks against a southpaw?

    Thanks,
    Steven

nice one pal, keep it up. As for sparring a southpaw i hear the best thing to do is keep firing those right hands.

It sounds like your fitness is good, most people struggle with 3 rounds when its there first time. bravo.

Sparing is great fun yeah, and if you want to combine learning with a good workout, bump up the amount of rounds. Just yesterday I went at least 15 three minute rounds with a sparing partner. It was the most exhausting thing, but I learned a lot.

        Thanks guys

I need to build more stamina and get more aggressive. I'm sure if there were body shots thrown this would have turned out alot different hehe. Not sure how I could take them.

its good to learn to body punch often and early especially against guys who are relatively inexperienced.... a couple good body shots against your average amateur and they are gonna be sucking for some wind... ive sparred 6 times now and on two occasions ive had my partners take a knee from body shots but yet to hurt anyone seriously upstairs.

Yeah body punching is the best, hook to the head then the body. I do that in sparring and 9 times outta 10 land the body shot cos people always expect body, head not the other way round.

Sparred again today. Last night I did a personal with trainer and learned quite a bit on my techniques. Worked on body shots and my throwing technique alot. We did about seven round of that.

Fought a different guy my age. His dad taught him boxing as well as being at the gym longer than me, so he had some more exp. I dont want to make excuses for me doing bad though.

We went 2 rounds, after 2nd I would have just been a zombie target.

1st round I tried to control with jab, then come in with body. He seemed hesitant to throw while I kept jabbing. When i would try to come in id get mauled on the head. Probably overall worst round. I think hes counter puncher.

2nd round I tried to get close in again, focusing on body again. He said I hit him with a crushing rib shot, didnt seem to effect him much, he just kept bursting on me and got me into the corner twice and unleashing.

My wrists ruin my aggression that I try to build to fight fast and hard. I noticed I was breathing hard inandout of nose, and I did not hear anything from him. He has good stamina. The pain in my wrist just shoots up and I lose my adrenaline to fight back fast and hard. It really pisses me off. I would say this is my #1 issue right now.

              Comments appreciated

Devoid of wondering whether you have permenant or significant damage to your hands/wrists...it would seem like you just have average achings.

I would go as far as saying that 90% of boxers on this forum will have, or have in the past suffered from aching or hurting hands/wrists. Don't worry, the ends of your limbs will toughen up and soon enough you'll be ok. Just ride through it.

The pain will disappear as is if it is some kind of a callous on the skin used to burning.

keep it up. you can only get better and remember - no fear.

yup for sure, i had some wrist pain to go along with quite a bit in the knuckles too.. it didnt last very long

maybe get yourself some longer wraps so you can go around your wrist a couple extra times.... i also wouldnt hesitate to have a doc look at it if you are genuinely concerned.

                    Had another spar today.

Nobody my weight showed up today, so I fought this I believe 15 year old guy.

I just had to keep jab up for distance, 1st round was great. 2nd round once again I cant control my breathing and my stamina dives and he gets inside for some good head hits.
