yeah, you would have to be extremly fit mate, pad works harder than fighting, i feel twice as tired on pads than i do after a round of a fight.
Pad work gets you fit, id rather do pads than running aswell

yeah lol, we do it with our trainer and he pusshes us, you hit and hit even if your tired you hit, if u dont block properly he will hit you with the pad, the pro at our place was doing pads one night and was like one round of pads is harder than a professional round

Really? Woah lol. Yeh my brother just tapped me with the pad if I dropped my guard or whatever. He didnt push it too hard but wasnt exactly letting me get away with nothing. I remember once he ran about the garden ( not ran but you know just walked backwards) I had some mitts on, and he just wanted me to hit him in the body, that was hard because he just kept moving round the whole garden, always moving backwardsand I just couldnt get near him lol.
Yeh, and with padwork I was trying to get proper technique but it took too long lol.

I HATE running! Never did much, I mainly sparred and did bag and pad work. I sparred a ton before a fight. There must be reason for the running tho, all the top Pro's do it.

for beginners try 12,slip,12 slip non stop.
it will be 1 second for you to initiate jab and cross, then the one holding the mitts just do a wide hook that you duck and lunge toward(as it means he is going to step anywhere not just backwards and you chase him)this will also take a sec.

try that non stop and I guarantee you you will be gassed out by round 3.
we do that some times with slight variations on combinations or alt. combos then we only have a 3o sec. break.it is even hard to reach round 3 with this if you where punching and slipping sriously.

its a good drill for follow ups and def. at the same time.you will also cramp a few times when you are new at this as you continously lunge towards him.
my 1st week we did this drill after our sparring and training lessons.I barely do road work any more.as my quads are cramping like crazy.

and I suggest if you feel tired switch stances.

Yeah I don't have the big cardio workout that someone else posted in a separate thread, but the 1 hour sessions with my trainer go like this:

Everything is in three minute rounds:

I start with him calling out combinations that I do while moving with various footwork drills like shuffling, backpedaling while jabbing etc. During the 1 minute rests, I hit the floor to see how many crunches I can do in the minute then its back on the feet. Then he puts the pads on and we work on those with him calling out combinations and moving, for the rest period of those I usually jump rope or do other cardio drills.

I agree. The pads kill me. When I first started, I would be taking the 1 minute rest and still wanted to throw up, but now I can do cardio in between.

Then we do something called a pressure drill. My trainer puts the headgear on and we get in the ring. I have to CONTINUOSLY jab and move. If I stop doing that he comes in and lands body shots until I can angle, or jab my way out of it. We do three rounds of that. I really want to collapse after that. Can't even lift my left arm

Then we go to the heavy bags. This involves running as well becasue I usually hit one bag, then while keeping my hands up, shuffle to the next one, do ten combinations, then backepedal about 10 yards while jabbing, side step again and then sprint toward the original heavy bag and start again. Stuff like that, we're always moving. Until the end when we do abs and strength with medicine balls etc.

I really am still on the verge of throwing up every workout. At this point I can't imagine throwing in 6 miles of running but I'll get there.
