    Starting Boxing

I plan to start boxing sometime in the near future. I'm 16 now and I guess by the time I get round to it I'll be 17. How long do you boxing experts reckon it will take until i'll be able to fight competetively at Senior amateur level? I used to excell at kickboxing so I'm no weakling but at senior level I would be going up against guys maybe twice my age and who may have been training twice as long as me.

It takes years of sweat, blood and persistance. They can fight at the top level, Im sure that you have no doubt. But in time you can work your way through the mid range fighters and then throw on solid ground with the more experienced ones. Not everybody can does this, its taken from heart and soul. But if your true to it it will be true to you, atleast the actual fight will but not always the decision. But thats another story..............Rockin'

Thanks ofr the advice. The only problem I have is I suffer from OSD (Osgood Schlatter Disease) and have done since I was about 13-14. It's the reason I gave up kickboxing as a kid. It has gotten alot better but I'm in pain when I bend on my legs, causing severe stress to below my kneecap and I know boxing is very reliant upon being able to use your legs to move quickly. If I tried a session of skipping I would probably faint in pain

Haloha... i have been kickboxing for 1 year and would also like to start boxing ... i am fully motivated, i run 6 km per day and rope-jumping alot I also go on kickboxing training 3-4 days per week- the problem is that i have to make UNI and that ****ing take me time Ok, so the question- anybody did kickboxing before boxing and if did, how did kickboxing help him to include in boxing? If you know what i mean. I am 20 years old and i am sad (but not very much) that i didnt started boxing before... but not very much- i have STRONG WILL! :]

btw- have you ever heard for Dejan Zavec (Zaveck)? He is from our country ...heh

If i am honest... sometimes i am thinking, to leave UNI and everything and just start boxing and training hard.
... when i tell friends, that i will be world boxing champion, they laugh at me- but this just give me the boost.
