It's one or the other. I can't see how a rational, intelligent boxing fan could believe that Mayweather is "more of a legend" that De La Hoya. Just look at the people De La Hoya fought and then look at the people Mayweather fought.
Look at the amount of PPV buys for Oscar's fights, then look at the amount for Floyd's fights.....there's a dropoff here folks.....

Oscar was much bigger than these guys below, but he also fought Hernandez in his prime. When Oscar beat him it was a huge deal when it happened. Oscar was also dropped in two different fights below 140, so while he was much stronger, it was not until he got older that his body really grew in. And like you said, he was the smaller man at 154-160.
Paez I am neutral about I also dont think he will be HOF
Hernandez was younger than when he fought floyd, but was also his first and only title fight at 135. (after losing to Oscar he found the time to beat Nelson if i am not mistaken)
and I think Oscar was ridiculously big at 130-135 (wasnt there a fight where he was allowed to weigh in more than 24 hours before the fight?) (I know he got knocked down, but that's what happen when you immediately start fighting good opposition, and you fight at a "tight" weight)
but we are arguing over nothing here, since we both believe that oscar's opposition is great however you watch it...

there is this guy called Jose Luis Castillo who is pretty bad ass, and was the terror of a division for years... I rate him above Quartey, as most ppl do

This is simply hilarious. Resume-for-resume, Mike Tyson has difficulty matching up with alot of great heavyweights, but who is a bigger legend? Think about the definition:
leg - end (n) [lej-uhnd]
6. a collection of stories about an admirable person
7. a person who is the center of such stories
Tell me if Floyd is a better fit here than Oscar. Oscar has been a part of countless more stories in boxing, win or lose (hence the bigger fights/bigger events argument). And Oscar is of course at the center of ALL these stories, who else could sell Yory Boy Campas, Javier Castillejo and Felix Sturm on PPV?
The biggest stories to come from any Floyd fight are the Judah brawl and the controversial win over Castillo in their first fight. Yeah, he's had some masterful performances, but how many people saw them?
