Nsb pick em 2021 masterthread

OK, so as asgarth pointed out above the long version and full explanation of the game can be found on the first post, but if you just want a real quick rundown it's a prediction league. We put up most of the biggest fights each year - maybe 80 or 90 total, so one or two a week on average - and invite players to predict the winner, the method (KO or decision) and further detail.

If you have a look at the last thread for the 30th Jan you'll get an idea how it works:

You just post your pick in the appropriate thread in the format WINNER METHOD DETAIL, so something like PLANT, KO, MID and you get points based on the accuracy of your pick.

People who get the most total points over the course of the year win cash prizes and bragging rights.

That's the gist of it, there's a bit of nuance around multipliers for big underdogs and optional multipliers when you're particularly confident of a win but you can figure that out as you go along.

Keep your eye out for next weeks thread appearing in the sticky section at the top of the NSB front page, gonna be a good one with three solid fights, Diaz vs Rakhimov, Castano vs Teixiera and Smith vs Vlasov and just post your picks same as everyone else and I'll tot up your scores and get your name added to the leaderboard.

Ok Gents so no huge surprises I guess that every last one of us picked on Plant, but kudos to those who figured that Truax would last the distance... honestly I'm kicking myself now for wasting that x3 on the KO but..

My advice. Use mulitpliers only for bumcrushing fights. Where its only a question of when the knockout will happen. No need to use them for competitive fights.

Exactly. Problem is, I believed in what you suggested (here, I mean) when considering Plant vs Truax. Never in my life I would have thought that Truax, who has been shot for quite a while, would last the course with Plant. I had hoped for 90 points at worst.

That, and my fùcking Leo pick when I was SURE that Fulton was the superior fighter.

True lol, but plant lacks the power to confidently back a knockout. He loses knockout-threat in the second half because fighters get used to his power and he visibly loses snap on his punches.
But yeah, I assumed truax injuries, age, speed difference and generally basic pressure style would give plant plenty of opportunities to overwhelm him.

costs nothing so you got nothing to lose even if you don't stick with it through the year. Just treat it as a bit of fun and maybe an excuse to have a rooting interest in some fights you might otherwise not have bothered with.
