He does seem unable to bear down after an opponent takes him into deep waters.
But that jab knockdown... usually that happens when a fighter is dead tired. The second knockdown wasn't due to a clean punch. He simply collapsed from fatigue. Maybe his conditioning is suspect? I also thought he was expending too much energy early in the fight by loading up on almost every punch. He didn't look relaxed in his delivery. It was like he was aiming for a KO to show up Lopez rather than simply fighting Nakatani.
OTOH, Nakatani looks like an easy beanpole opponent who can be overpowered. But he's a tough nut whose right hand has enough rangy power to cause damage. Adequate fundamentals and a crazy chin allows him to fight off his front foot; that type of constant pressure is mentally taxing to anyone who folds when things go south, especially when you've already knocked him down twice!
So, no, I don't believe Verdejo is done just yet. But his team, if possible, really needs to fix any shortcomings they can glean from this loss. The next fight will be more telling.
