Utterly foolish comments from Arum. As I said the last time, it's the fighter's job to fight and the promoter's job to promote. As a fighter, nobody can fault Crawford. He's got a record of 15-0 with 12 KOs in world title fights and he's been not only brilliant but also exciting to watch in pretty much all of those victories. He's consensus top 3 p4p in the world, potentially even no. 1 depending on who you ask. He's delivering pretty much everything a promoter could possibly want in the ring. If a promoter can't sell that then he's a shi**y promoter, end of story, regardless of what his personality is like. Sure, talking can help to sell a fight, but ultimately this is a professional sport, and fans pay to see athletes compete, not talk, and again, selling the fight is first and foremost the promoter's job, not the fighter's.
If I was a young prospect considering signing up with Top Rank, or even one of the other fighters in Bob's stable, this entire episode would have me on the phone to my agent to see what kind of deal I could get with Hearn or Haymon or hell, even Oscar instead. I'd think to myself, is this how I'm going to end up, where even if I put together a great string of eye-catching victories in world title fights and end up near the top of the p4p list, I'm getting shi* on by own promoter for not doing the job that he's supposed to be doing? Even Don King at least made a show of being your friend while he was screwing you. The only other times I can remember a promoter trash talking his own guy while he was still under contract with him was Odlanier Solis' promoter calling him a bum after his umpteenth embarrassing loss and Tor Hamer's promoter publicly firing him over social media after he quit in a fight. There's a strong case for arguing that both of those were justified, but even in those cases plenty of people said it was unprofessional. How much worse is this, when the fighter in question has just posted his eighth consecutive world title fight KO? Everything Dana White said about Arum was 100% on the money.

Arum is 100% correct in this entire article. No one is going to promote this fight and have it done during COVID. It’s not happening folks. We can hem and haw all we like and we can gnash our teeth at Arum as the evil villain but he is correct. It may be years before fans are allowed back into arenas.
Good luck making money off a fighter that’s not known by anyone outside of die hard fans and another barely known but still pulls modest numbers.

Why hasn't he released him yet? Talk is cheap. Arum is behaving like a scorned woman finding out that a relationship is over. People, he realize Crawford isn't willing to resign with them.Last edited by Mister Wolf; 11-23-2020, 05:51 AM.

Budd was making around $7mil fighting amir khan, as khan made $5mil just being a hopeless opponent for crawford, can see why crawford would ask for 10mil but not Spence. Plus spence wanting 60-40 is just a fight killer... very similar to the whole pac v floyd charade that went on for years due to the public demands by the fighters

Ask Spence or Crawford who they'd want next if up to them. I think they'd both choose Pacquiao, as that's where the $$$ are at 147 - and Pac's gonna fight whoever he wants to fight!
