Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez: Lomachenko Never Gave Me Money To Make The Fight Happen

LAS VEGAS Teofimo Lopez admits it provided more motivation when he accepted less money than he thinks he is worth for his showdown with Vasiliy Lomachenko on Saturday night. Lopez clarified during an interview with krikya360.com, however, that Lomachenko did not sacrifice a portion of his purse so that Lopez could be paid more to finalize their deal. Bob Arum, whose company, Top Rank Inc., promotes Lomachenko and Lopez, intimated to several outlets early in August that Lomachenko made financial sacrifices to make their lightweight title unification fight a reality.

No, Lomacheko never directly gave ay money to Lopez.

He did, however, take a pay cut, in order to get the fight made.

Effectively, he took a bit less to give Lopez a bit more. Which is what everyone is saying.

"He’s fighting for less than his contract says because he gets it." Bob Arum talking about Lomahcenko, 6 August 2020.

Why does it seem not fair that Loma had to be in 3 separate championship bouts to grab each of his 3 belts while Lopez has a chance to grab all 3 of those titles after only one championship fight so far in his career?

        Be real

Loma took a pay cut so this fight can happen and then you excepted the fight. You can reinvent the story like your dad did when he drunkenly confronted Loma at the hotel. Was hoping you'd be better than that! Thank Loma and put YOUR Diva feelings aside!

He who holds the most toys, wins...or he who beats him to take those toys. Well, it is what it is. In actuality, Loma wanted to unify, and to do so, he risks losing all his belts to take Teo's single belt. It's not an even exchange but it is a much needed unification bout.

isn’t that just basic negotiations? Example: Fighter A offers a 70:30 split. Fighter B: Wants 50:50. They settle in the middle and Fighter A took less money than he originally asked for.

Listening comprehension... Some people take one word of a sentence and fabricate their own story based on what they want to see happen.

Both what Arum and what Lopez said can be true at the same time. Arum stated that Vasyl took less money to make the fight happen. Lopez is saying that no money was taken away from Vasyl to pay Lopez. Both can be true. Whatever the collective pursers may have been for the initial contract, Lopez could still be making the same or similar while Vasyl is taking a paycut willingly to make the fight happen.

                    That's how it works brother.

Tyson had to chase down 3 belts on 3 different nights back in the day & Buster won all of them on one night.
