Comments Thread For: Usyk Will Not Step Aside From Joshua Title Shot, Says Hearn

Promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated that former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has no plans to step-aside from a mandatory crack at Anthony Joshua. Joshua will defend his IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA heavyweight belts against Kubrat Pulev on the tentative date of December 12.

The 4th rate WBO is the least credible belt out there (apart from the IBO) so doesn't really matter. What does matter is an undisputed champion. Back in the day when we only had the WBA & WBC we had genuine elimination contests, so why can't we let the AJ/Pulev & Fury/Wilder winners fight it out & have the Usyk/Chisora & Whyte/Povetkin II winners fight out a final eliminator?

No surprise here. He’s mandatory, why wouldn’t he take the fight?

The primary selling point for Fury-Joshua is "full unification; undisputed" imo. Joshua has also said the past he isn't vacating any titles.
Late 2021 before that fight happens.

Hearn would love to cash in with Usyk before letting Joshua take another loss

                Why would he?

A big money fight with unified AJ and another big money fight with Fury for undisputed if he wins.

                Or

One big money fight with the undisputed champ IF they don't vacate and Usyk doesn't lose before then.

I hope he fights AJ gets his 20% and loses

No step aside fee or undisputed fight

He can fight Bellew 2 for the cruiserweight belt.

                    Yeah

I saw an interview with Adam Smith from Sky and he was saying it might be good to see AJ v Usyk before Fury.

Petrified because they know Fury ends their cash cow and Sky have no more PPV fighters on the horizon.
