Mexican Independence is Sept. 16 2020 - how is the date interrupted?

Since there is no fans in attendance, why not make it Sep 16? The real Mexican Independence Day

I would agree. However there’s more probability for gatherings on a Saturday.

I'm not sure why media keeps saying sept 12 either. And it's not usual to fight on Mexican Independence day on the sat after the 16th if it falls during the week.

Looking quickly I see that Canelo has fought multiple times the first Sat after the 16th. Against Liam Smith and Alfonso Gomes both on the 9/17 and Baldamir on 9/18.

Floyd Mayweather fought Victor Ortiz 9/17 and Marquez on 9/19.

Oscar fought Hopkins on 9/18, Trinidad 9/18 and Chavez 9/18.

All of these fights I mentioned were were part of PPVs promoted as Mexican Independence day weekend.

That's not true it's been the 3rd saturday many times.
Chavez who I think started the tradition fought multiple times on the 3rd saturday and multiple times on a saturday after the 16 against guys like Meldrick Taylor, Oscar and Wise.

Chavez started Mexican Independence fights, then Oscar took over, then Floyd and now Canelo and all have fought on big PPVs after the 16 and the 3rd Saturday of sept.
