This is an interesting topic due to how carefully Wilders management pushed him and put him in the right places at the right times to ensure he has an easier road and had a WBC backing him behind Haymon and a shrewd Finkle where these things don’t happen in another time nor does he win any Olympic medals with much better competitors.
So how does his career pan out ,what would he call himself with no bronze medal either which hits his marketability and no social media of racial agenda channels to push him ?
This to me spells doom for Wilder ,does he even make it to top contender status with dangerous guys outside the top 10 where he won’t get to fight 30 easy fights at the start ?
He may even run into a Vitali or Wlad Klitschko who were boxing close to mid 90”s ,people forget that .
Who were some of the tougher journeymen ? Darell Wilson went 16 and 0 bf his first loss and got a win over young Briggs who was the Wilder back then knocking guys out in first rounds . Wilder nearly lost to Sconiers in his 13 th fight I’d say this is a very dangerous period for Wilder he’s facing better fighters already at this point . What if he ran into a guy named Courage Tshabalala in his 13 th fight a puncher ? What about a Phil Jackson could Wilder get a win on him early in his career before reaching fight 30 like Ruddock did ? Who was Wilders best win at actually 30 fights in this era ? Firtha ? I’d say Jackson is clearly better then a Firtha .these are only 3 guys so let’s take a look at the known guys and assume Wilder somehow makes it here one way or other maybe with the strings of Don King ?

Shannon Briggs ...how does this fight go ? Briggs worked his way into a title fight late in the 90”s so Wilder wouldn’t be here because Foreman was there even after Lewis was so is this an easier fight if we switched them ? I’d say hell no ,Wilder is not Foreman even at that age in the late 90”s . Briggs had speed and power with decent abilities but weak on defense but I don’t think Wilder survives an early blitz I’m going with Briggs .
Tommy Morrison ? A true power puncher with speed and skills however his weaknesses were stamina and at times chin with a habit not coming into fights prepared unless he felt it was a dangerous one . Morrison would not be overlong Wilder here ,I’d call this a 50/50 based on Morrison’s weaknesses but assuming he gets his head on straight and can fight like he did against Ruddock I’m going Morrison here a second Wilder loss .
Ray Mercer . I think it’s a terrible match up for Wilder and so do the majority on here in the other thread . Not hard to figure out here ,Mercer will take one to land one and use his superior boxing to avoid any danger in this one , Lewis was able to fend him off but had to use everything he had ,Wilder is not Lewis . Wilder would take three losses here .strike three .
Andrew Golota. Here’s an interesting one ,Wilder can win this one if he catches Golota early and rattles him. Golota tended to lose composure the more the fight went on ,I can’t say Wilder would win or lose this one even though Golota is one of the better fighters in the era I call it a 50/50 even though Wilder wouldn’t have given the Bowes much trouble in this fight it inconclusive depending who is actually training Wilder and if Golota is focused .
Mike Tyson . Yes Mike Tyson was a 90”s fighter to even not at his peak was one of the best ,I’d say a better version of a Mercer so Wilder is going to be in serious trouble here against an aggressive power puncher who also had a jab ,this Loss number 4 for Wilder out of 5 .
Notice I didn’t use the top guys who were considered the best like Lewis, Bowe and Holyfield,I didn’t need to .
So how does Wilders career look then ,he almost pulled the ultimate magic trick and convinced the masses of casuals he’s the most feared ever and you know the rest of his list . But back then he would have literally everything going again him I think he ends up shaking early and struggles severely as a Mike Grant did in that way and he doesn’t reach 40 and 0 ,not even near it .Id give him the benefit of the doubt and maybe he does sneak in a title shot but does anyone think he gets ranked in a top 5 because I really can’t see it.
