And those hype came at the back of him stopping Ortiz in a rematch no one wanted. In reality anyone can beat anyone at HW if you have something special about you. I just didn’t think Wilder had proved that he was good enough to beat Tyson or Ali in their primes, I understood the weight difference that everyone brings up when making that argument but to be honest, Wilder himself isn’t a big HW.

Wilder made those claims while losing round after round to 2nd tier fighters and lower. Then the 1st top fighter he faces he gets demolished.
He can speak it and believe it all he wants. Reality says different.

Wilder wasn’t a great champion or anything, but he’s a giant with arguably the most powerful straight right ever seen. He would’ve been a tough out for most historical heavies. Ali was possibly the greatest heavweight of all time (a toss up between him and Joe Louis, in my opinion), but he never fought anyone as tall as Deontay. He probably would’ve been content to outpoint the much taller man (Ali was 6’3”), while avoiding that Wilder missile. Tyson probably would’ve bored right through Deontay. Wilder’s skills wouldn’t have been enough to hold off the early onslaught, and that relentless Tyson inside game would’ve had him crashing down inside four rounds.
