Comments Thread For: Fury: I Wouldn't Have Switched To Trainer I Didn't Already Know

Familiarity was an important component to Tyson Fury hiring Javan Steward as his new trainer in December. Changing trainers so close to such a huge fight was generally regarded as an unusual move, but Fury felt comfortable with Steward because he had worked alongside Emanuel Steward's nephew in 2010 at his late uncle's famed Kronk Gym in Detroit. Fury noted during a recent conference call that he wouldn't have replaced Ben Davison with a trainer with whom he didn't already have an existing relationship.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Sugar Hill is only coming into play during camp once Fury steps in the ring he's gonna do what comes naturally to him. Any trainer Fury has at this point is basically a glorified P.E. teacher.

Davison almost got Fury knocked out. He kept insisting Fury box and move and use nothing but the left hand. Had Fury stood his ground and hit Wilder with a bomb or two then Wilder becomes that slow, plodding battleship we saw in the second Ortiz fight. Hill is going to help Fury gain some respect with power shots and he will insist on finishing Wilder when he’s hurt.

I'm not disagreeing that Sugar is helping Fury in camp but time will tell if he follows the corners instructions come fight night. I think Fury has an uncanny natural ability to adapt in the ring second to second. Now whether he knocks Wilder out or gets caught and gets knocked out is yet to be seen. I'm leaning more towards the latter myself but it's too close to call imo

Fury doesn't have the heat to put away wilder with one shot but I see a calzaghe vs Lacy 2.0 beating demoralized for 5-12rds until the breeze knocks wilder down

Fury had moments in the first fight where he could have been more aggressive. If he can do that this time around it could get interesting real fast.
