I'm looking to start competing and my natural bodyweight tends to hover between 160-165 lbs, but middleweights tend to be taller, so I'm just looking for people's opinions. Thanks.

Is 5'9" too short to fight as an amateur Middleweight (165 lbs)?

Fight at the lowest weight you feel good at. Canelo is one of the best middleweights and super middleweights in the world and he is only 5 foot 7 inches or maybe 5 foot 8 inches. Never fight at a weight you don't feel strong at regardless of the height of the fighters you may fight. You can learn to get close and then reach is no longer an advantage for the taller fighter with the longer reach.

It's not about height. What's your body type like? I competed at 165 in my youth before moving up to 178 and then 200. It's same day weigh ins too, so don't set your goal too low. Big thing to remember with the Ams is it's not about power, it's about speed and accuracy.
