Comments Thread For: McCarter: Claressa Shields Lacks Power, Still Fights in Amateur Style

This past weekend Showtime made it clear the network is investing in women's boxing by airing two different fights between women on a three-fight card. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields headlined the broadcast, scoring a commanding unanimous decision over Ivana Habazin and picking up titles in her third division in the process.

Yeah she should sharpen up her skills, and fighting no-hopers is not giving her a good enough reason to.

Don't wait to get hurt in a tough fight to do it

That’s exactly what I said in the Laila Ali thread. Shields style is still amateurish. She hasn’t reach her prime yet, in 2/3 years she would start getting a lot of KO victories after her pro style has developed a lot more.

How can McCarter be ranked #1 and the WBA hasn't forced Braekhus to fight her yet?

There are too many shenanigans like that going on women's boxing. Playing fast and loose with the rankings and with who gets title shots.

So Let’s do the math. Layla McCarter has 10 knockouts out of 40 or a 25% KO ratio. Claressa Shields has 2 KO’s out of 10 fights or a 20% KO ratio.

The formers KO’s all took place with shopworn fighters previously knocked out. The Latter is 50/50 KO’d to never KO’d already fighting top talent.

If they want to fight let’s see it of course. But the trash talk has to make sense. McCarter is just not a knock out artist so where is the room for amateur lecture.

I would argue so far the GWOAT was Layla Ali then Anne Wolf, Cecilia Braekhus and Christy Martin.

However... T Rex has a remarkable start against the top fighters of the era. They moved her like Loma and she hasn’t taken one loss.

Not much room to complain here. If she can beat Braekhus she is definitely a bigger part of the discussion. I just don’t know if she can beat her as Braekhus is a great fighter with KO power.

But yeah... let’s see McCarter take one also. Looks like she just talked herself into consideration. Some of y’all are just haters of black fighters. If this stings I am definitely talking to you.

McCarter always wants to talk crap about Braekhus, but McCarter's last 5 opponents:
61-67-5, 8 total wins against fighters with winning records

                Braekhus' last 5 opponents:
                93-25-4 with 5 world titles from 135 to 160

McCarter's last 5 opponents are 61-67-5. Braekhus is fighting real opponents that are 93-25-4 in the same span.

McCarter's last 5 opponents have a total of 8 wins against fighters with a winning record, and some of those fighters are like 2-1-1.

The WBA has to wait its turn to enforce a mandatory.

Also, as usual, the boxing scene article is completely wrong.

They called McCarter the reigning IBF women's welterweight champion but she isn't.

Braekhus is the reigning WBA, IBF, WBO, WBC, IBO, Ring P4P champ.

McCarter has bullcrap unrecognized WIBF and GBU welterweight titles she won against a fighter who is currently 13-20-2.
